Recycle FAQ's

Why am I now able to dump all my recyclables into one bin? What’s changed?
Technology’s changed. New machinery and processes enable us to sort your recyclable items after we pick them up—so you don’t have to.

Why should I recycle?
Reducing, reusing and recycling reduce the need to harvest or manufacture new materials. That saves natural resources and energy. While there is always some pollution in any industrial process—including recycling—manufacturing using recycled material is less polluting and resource intensive than manufacturing processes using virgin materials. Recycling also reduces the amount of trash littering our streets or going into landfills. Besides being eyesores, landfills are a significant source of greenhouse gas and they carry the risk of air and groundwater pollution. See the pre-cycle tab for additional information on why you should recycle.

Why should I recycle with Bestway?
We make it easy, easy, easy! Simply throw all your recyclable items into your WayGreen cart and put it out with your weekly trash. Bestway stands for unmatched service, fair rates and 100% customer satisfaction.

Why does Bestway care about recycling?
The Kiemel family has operated Bestway since 1967 and, like you; the staff and management of Bestway care about the future world we leave to our children and grandchildren. Every day, we see the effects of trash disposal and realize the benefits of recycling and proper disposal. Our commitment to our customers is that we are dedicated to protecting the environment and safeguadring public health through proper disposal and recycling.

What can I recycle?
Bestway has one of the most comprehensive recycling programs in the area. As technology evolves, we’ll continue to look for ways to expand the list of items you can recycle. Right now, you can combine these recyclable items into a single cart:

  • Corrugated cardboard (flattened, cut into pieces no larger than 2 feet by 2 feet)
  • Office paper
  • Magazines
  • Junk mail
  • Envelopes
  • Phone books
  • Paperboard
  • Brown paper bags
  • Newspapers and all inserts
  • Plastic containers #1-7
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum cans and foil
  • Steel and tin cans
  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Coffee Cups

Are there items I am not allowed to recycle?
There are some items that technology has not allowed us to recycle at this point in time.  Sometimes these items are multiple materials pressed together or they may contain materials that we are unable to handle.  When this changes we will notify you of that change.  The list below gives some items we cannot take.  Keep these in mind when you are shopping if possible.  Call us if you have a question about a specific item not listed below.

  • Plastic grocery bags, as these get caught in the processing equipment.(Please return to the store)
  • Ice Cream containers
  • Styrofoam including packing peanuts
  • Juice boxes
  • Blister packs
  • Zip-lock type bags
  • Any plastic with food waste on it.
  • Bags from inside paperboard containers such as inside a cereal box
  • Automotive chemical containers such as motor oil or antifreeze
  • Pesticide containers
  • Film
  • Used tissues

Will recycling with Bestway Cost me more?
The cost for the NEW WayGreen program is applied to your statement each month as a separate line item, $5 each month. However, recycling under the new program WILL reduce your trash stream. As the amount of trash generated goes down, so will your service level needed. Potentially, the amount you pay each month could either be a few dollars more, about the same amount or even less!

 Will my bill look different?
Yes. If you participate in WayGreen, you’ll see a separate charge noted on your bill.

I have a recycle bin now. Can I continue to use it?
If you currently recycle through Bestway you will need to call or sign-up online for your new cart, one that works with our equipment.  We will continue to service your recyclables as we have in the past UNTIL completely phased out. At that time, you MUST be signed up for our new program to continue your curbside recycling. If you’re new to recycling with Bestway, you’ll need to order a WayGreen cart to participate.

When and where do my recyclables get picked up?
Simply put your WayGreen recycle cart out at the curb or alley next to your weekly trash. We’ll pick it up at the same place and on the same day as your regular trash pick-up.The time may be different since it is a separate truck picking up recyclables. **Please make sure to place each container at least 4 feet from each other**

Since you’re picking up my recycle bin on the same day as my trash, isn’t it all just going into the landfill?
Only trash goes to the landfill. Bestway has two trucks to service your account to keep recyclable items separate from trash. Nothing is more important to us then our recycling reputation. We will verify our recycling quantities for you if you have further questions, just give us a call.
